General Order Information

Brew Pack Products, Inc. would like to ensure that your growlers are delivered to your door as quickly as possible. As you are probably aware, your growler may be subject to federal labeling requirements. Before you submit your artwork to us for printing, we urge you to review the following guidelines. Brew Pack Products, Inc. does not accept responsibility for the content of the printed material on our decorated glassware.
• What are your conditions of filling & sale? The ATF views growlers in two ways — either as a bottle or a large glass. You should determine which term applies to your growlers.
BOTTLE: Applies to growlers that will be pre-filled, sealed, and stored — either on the brewery premises or at the brewpub for sale to consumers. If your growlers will fall into this category, you must comply with federal labeling provisions and the Alcoholic Beverage Labeling Act. Refer to the checklist on the next page.
LARGE GLASS: Applies to growlers that are not pre-filled, but are to be purchased by the consumer and then filled. This term also applies if a consumer furnishes their own growler for filling at the brewpub. If your growlers fall into this category, no specific marking requirements apply, and the government warning label would not be necessary. (However, the ATF advises that it would be prudent to label your growler as if it were a bottle. Some states may consider this activity as bottling and subject to labeling requirements. You may avoid regulatory problems that would be created if an inadequately labeled growler is inadvertently filled under conditions considered as bottling.)
• How are the contents of your growler going to be taxed? If your growler will be filled on the brewpub premises, taxes will be determined by the amount pumped into the taxpayment tank on location. If the growler is filled at the portion of the brewery not designated as the brewpub, taxes will be determined on the stated content of the container (64 ounces). You will need to refer to regulations §25.25 (c), 25.157, and 25.158. Contact your local ATF office for specifics.
FEDERAL LABEL REQUIREMENTS — CHECKLIST

Following is a summary of the label requirements listed in the federal beer regulations, as they relate to growlers. Your local office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms will be able to supply you with the form which must be submitted with your artwork for a certificate of label approval. If you have additional questions, you may call the label compliance division directly at (202) 927-8140.

• Name or Trade Name of the Brewer
• Net Contents of the Bottle (Net contents should be shown as "1/2 gallon" or "One half gallon". 64 ounces may be shown in addition to 1/2 gallon, but 64 ounces can not be used alone on the label as the net contents of the growler.)
• The Nature of the Product (Such as beer, ale, porter, stout, etc. If you offer several styles of beer, you may wish to incorporate a blank solid area of ink into your artwork. This will allow you to write on the bottle with several types of markers. Therefore, you can note the nature of the product by writing it on the growler at the time of filling.)
• The Place of Production (City, and state if necessary for identification. The place of production should appear in direct conjunction with the brewer’s name or trade name.) If you own or operate two or more breweries, additional requirements apply. You will either need to print a different bottle for each place of production, or list all brewery locations on each bottle. If you choose to list all breweries on one label, you will need to use a coding system on the label, bottle, or lid to indicate the actual place of production. Before you employ any type of coding system, make sure to notify your ATF district director.
• NO STATEMENT AS TO PAYMENT OF INTERNAL REVENUE TAXES MAY BE SHOWN.

• GOVERNMENT WARNING LABEL (The following statement must be separate from all other information.)

GOVERNMENT WARNING: (1) According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects. (2) Consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems.
An ATF inspector will have the following criteria for the government warning statement:
• The statement must be legible under ordinary conditions, and be on a contrasting background. Therefore, the color of ink that you choose should show up against the color of the beer when filled.
• The words "GOVERNMENT WARNING" must be in capital letters and bold type.
• The maximum number of characters per inch of the warning statement is 25. All characters including both upper and lower case characters must be a minimum 2 millimeters in size.
• The statement must be one continuous paragraph. Item #2 may not begin a new paragraph.
The ATF may request that you provide a growler printed with your label prior to final approval. This requirement enables them to fill the bottle with a brown liquid, so they may ensure legibility and a contrasting background. The process of printing a single growler is cost prohibitive, therefore Brew Pack Products, Inc. is unable to accommodate such a request. However, we can provide a copy of the final proof of the artwork, sized as it will be on the growler. You should submit this proof to the ATF for an "unofficial" review. The inspector will be able to make "unofficial" comments regarding any possible compliance problems, so that any necessary artwork changes may be made prior to printing. Once your first order of growlers is printed, you may submit the actual bottle for your "official" certificate of label compliance.
ARTWORK DIMENSIONS & GUIDELINES TO CONSIDER
General — Decorated Glassware

• You should submit your artwork in the sharpest, cleanest form available. Film Positives are used to make screens for printing and should be provided if there are no necessary changes to the artwork. To modify your artwork, digital files on disk are ideal, but we can work with camera-ready slicks, laser prints, or original drawings. Digital files should be saved as Adobe Illustrator EPS format. Our art department works on high-end Macintosh systems and can accomodate most files (IBM included) if properly formatted (inquire for specifics). Please include all fonts, and indicate which application the artwork was created in. Film positives should be submitted Right Reading Emulsion side Up. Please refer to the section titled "General Order Information" for details on art charges.

• If you are using a shaded tint screen or creating a half-tone effect, use the following Line Screen counts printed at 100% final size art: Orders quoted f.o.b. Ohio, Florida, or Nevada — use a 45 dot Line Screen. Orders quoted Los Angeles — use a 65 dot Line Screen (55 Line if the artwork is for the promotional pint glass).
• If you plan on reversing type, the font weight should be fairly bold. Fine lines tend to plug up.
• Please include all color separations for multi-color designs. Digital files should be designed using spot colors from the Pantone Matching System (PMS) — We do not screen print using process inks (CMYK)! PLEASE ALLOW FOR A 1/32"-1/16" REGISTRATION MARGIN! Trap lines should be bold enough to account for this margin. Designs for decorated glassware should use a minimum of a 2 point overprinting margin.
• Quotes are available for custom decals which can print using process colors.

GROWLERS — 1/2 GALLON JUGS

• Maximum height of any panel — single color 4.75"
• Maximum height of any panel — multi-color 4.5"
• Maximum width of front or back panel — single color 4.75"
• Maximum width of front or back panel — multi color 4.75"
• Circumference of bottle 15.5"
The bottle uses one continuous screen for front, back, and side panels. You may use the entire circumference of the bottle in your layout, but if a panel is wider than 4.75", it is difficult to read without turning the bottle. You must leave a 1" gap with no printing for stopping & starting. If your orders have been quoted f.o.b. Ohio, Florida, or Nevada, this gap needs to be 2" wide, and directly under the handle of the jug.
• The lettering of the government warning statement needs to be a minimum of 2 millimeters in size, or 25 characters per inch. Refer to the section titled "Federal Labeling Requirements" for additional government requirements.
• The artwork may wrap from right to left, or left to right from the side seam below the handle of the jug. If you have a preference for printing for right-handed or left handed drinkers, please specify.
• You may wish to incorporate a glass disclaimer into your artwork. If you would like to use a standard statement that was specifically written for growler use, we would be happy to provide you with the verbiage. PINT GLASSES
• Maximum height of imprint area ranges from 3.5" to 4" depending on number of colors and decorating facility. Confirm imprint area with your sales representative.

• Promotional pint glasses are slightly more limited on available colors and registration margins. Please discuss with your sales representative.

• Complex designs requiring exceptionally tight registration or multi colors may require a decal. ACL decals are fired in the same process as glassware that has been direct screened, but they require a few additional steps that make the process more expensive at smaller quantities. Your sales representative can provide you with a custom quotation based on the quantity that you need, as well as advise you of the additional lead time to expect for decal ware.

OTHER DECORATED GLASSWARE
• Most styles of glassware can be decorated with your logo, provided that the item has a printable surface. Imprint areas vary widely depending on the size and shape of the glass. Your sales representative can work with you to find the styles that you are interested in.
GROWLER CARRIERS
• Growler Packs — The maximum imprint area for the growler pack is 6" high x 6" wide. We recommend that you limit the silkscreen color to white, which shows up well on any color of the nylon cordura fabric.
• Growler Totes — The maximum imprint area for the growler tote is 5" high x 5" wide. We recommend that you limit the silkscreen color to white, which shows up well on any color of the nylon fabric.
• Canvas Growler bags — The maximum imprint area for the growler bag is 5.75" high x 6" wide. We suggest that you take advantage of the colors in your logo, since bright colors show up well against the natural color of the canvas. The bags may be screened with single or multi-colors. Please request a custom quote from your sales representative for multi-color silkscreened bags. Multi-color separations should avoid overlaps for canvas bags.
